High school football is back!!!

September 2nd, 2011

No, this is not the preview for the Warriors 2011 football season, and no the Turnbull AC’s, Orphans, Baseball Furies, Lizzies, Punks, Rouges, Riffs, Hurricanes, nor Boppers are not in our district; this is just an oldie but a goodie…and appropriately named, “The Warriors”.

After a summer full of tire flipping and sledge hammering, the Steinbrenner football Warriors are ready to take the field for the first time in 2011 vs. neighborhood rival Sickles High School tonight at 7:30pm at home.

In my second season with the Warriors, my first observation is that the boys were much more committed in the weight room and to their conditioning during their summer break, and the payoff was not only having guys fresh and strong for the first day of practice, but we had no major injuries during the preseason, which culminated in a 14-0 win vs. Alonso High School.

Check out this short clip featured on Baynews9.com previewing the 2011 football season featuring two of the three captains, Danny Fernandez and Alex Vega.

Good luck and Go Warriors!!!

I know I haven’t put out a lot for a couple of months since returning from the A5N Division 1 series in Korea, and I know I owe you a video blog of both the Hong Kong series in April and the A5N this year, and I promise that they are on the way very very soon.

I thought I might start with a teaser from the Hong Kong series that aired just before we took the field. We spent the day with some of the orphans from Smokey Mountain and got a chance to check out what they have to battle with on a daily basis just to survive. It made for having to take on a powerhouse in asian rugby like Hong Kong, a very small task. Many of the new and younger boys, who all live in developed countries and have privileged lives got to see what life could have been for them, what our parents had to endure, and why they aspired to leave and give us a better opportunity in life.

This tour, more than any other that I have been blessed to be a part of, really solidified that we are more than just a rugby team, and that we are more than just representing a country, we are representing the 85 million others that didn’t and don’t have the opportunity that we have. The opportunity to show that we are proudly pinoy.
